CFII

The Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII) rating allows CFIs to teach instrument flight, helping pilots gain the skills necessary to operate under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). This certification expands a CFI’s teaching scope and career opportunities.

Training Overview

Prerequisites:

  • Hold a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Hold at least a Third-Class Medical Certificate

  • English proficiency (must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English)

Ground Training:

  • Teaching IFR regulations and procedures

  • Instrument approach and navigation techniques

  • Weather analysis for IFR training

Flight Training:

  • Receive flight training from an authorized instructor on:

    • How to teach instrument flight maneuvers

    • IFR emergency procedures

    • Holding patterns, approaches, and IFR en-route navigation

Examinations:

  • Knowledge Test:

    • Flight Instructor Instrument (FII) Test

  • Practical Test (Checkride):

    • Demonstrate the ability to teach and perform instrument maneuvers to FAA standards

COST & DURATION

Duration: Each Course is typically 2-4 months, depending on student progress and availability.

Flight Training:

  • 25-30 hours of instructional flight training, including:

    • Teaching basic flight maneuvers

    • Emergency procedures and student management

    • Conducting cross-country instructional flights

Examinations:

  • Knowledge Tests:

    • Fundamentals of Instructing (FOI) Test

    • Flight Instructor Airplane (FIA) Test

  • Practical Test (Checkride):

    • Demonstrate teaching ability and flight maneuver proficiency to FAA standards
